For massage therapists & wellbeing practitioners

People say things on the table they haven't said anywhere else.

Your clients relax. Their shoulders drop, their guard drops, and sometimes their whole story comes out. Separation, a court date they're dreading, a situation that is getting worse and they don't know where to turn.

You are not a legal advisor. But you don't need to be. You just need one sentence — and a link.

What is a McKenzie Friend?

A McKenzie Friend is a non-legal court supporter. They can attend family court hearings, help a person understand their documents, assist with paperwork, and stand beside them in the room when it matters most. They are not solicitors and cannot give legal advice — but they provide something just as valuable: presence, preparation, and someone who knows what's happening.

Most people who need a McKenzie Friend have never heard of them. They believe their options are an expensive solicitor or nothing. Your client on the table right now might be one of those people.

What you can say

"There are people called McKenzie Friends — they're not solicitors but they can actually go to court with you and help you through the whole process. Much more affordable. There's a directory at familycourtbridge.org — I've sent a few people there and they found it really helpful."

You are sharing information. That is all. You are not advising, you are not diagnosing, you are not overstepping. A leaflet on your reception desk is enough. A word at the end of a session is more than enough.

🌿 Something I want more of my clients to know about.

Working in wellbeing means I hear a lot — and lately I've been hearing more and more about family court, divorce, and custody situations where people feel completely overwhelmed and completely alone.

If that's you, or someone you know: there are people called McKenzie Friends who can attend family court hearings with you, help you prepare, and guide you through the process. They're not solicitors, but they know what they're doing — and they cost a fraction of the price.

You can find one at familycourtbridge.org/find-your-support 💙

Please share — this is exactly the kind of information that gets lost and shouldn't.

Adapt as you wish — just keep the link.

Why wellbeing practitioners matter here

They are already safe with you

The treatment room is one of the few places people feel genuinely off-guard. What they say there, they mean.

They are already talking

People narrate their lives on the table. Separation, custody battles, financial stress — it comes out. You just haven't known what to do with it.

You reach people who are avoiding help

Some of your clients will never call a helpline or search online. But they will be back in your room in three weeks. You are a recurring contact at a recurring low point.

McKenzie Friend Directory

Family Court Bridge lists McKenzie Friends across England and Wales — experienced practitioners supporting people through divorce, child arrangements, financial remedy, and protective orders. Free to search.

Please note: My role is to provide practical, process‑focused support. I do not give legal advice. Legal advice is often needed at key points, and I regularly encourage people to seek advice from a family solicitor. Many clients work with me alongside their solicitor, using legal advice for legal decisions and practical support to manage the process around it.
